For trial lawyers

A second reader for your trial

Trial lawyers send Theodora cases at three points: before trial, when the instructions and the record are still being made; after the verdict, for post-trial motions; and when the appeal is filed.

Appeals are won and lost on what was preserved. An objection made in the right words, an instruction proposed in writing, a proffer of excluded evidence: these decide what the appellate court can hear. Theodora helps you make that record while you try the case.

Before and during trial

Proposed jury instructions and the law behind them. Motions in limine written with the appeal in mind. A short memo, for the trial team, on the issues worth preserving and how to do it. On call during the charge conference if you want her there.

After the verdict

Motions for new trial, remittitur and judgment notwithstanding the verdict, which can fix an error without an appeal and which may change the deadline to appeal. Then a frank view of the appeal, for you and your client.

On appeal

Co-counsel on the brief, with you handling the client relationship, or a full handoff with a fee agreement directly with the client. Either way, you see the drafts and you're copied on the filings. Referral fees follow the bar's rules and are agreed in writing.

Ways to work together

Pick the help the case needs

A pen resting on a loose pile of annotated pages
  • A record review

A written view of the issues preserved, the ones at risk, and what to do about them before trial ends.

  • Post-trial motions

Drafted on the trial schedule, with the appeal deadline tracked from the first day.

  • Co-counsel on appeal

Theodora writes the brief and argues; you stay in touch with the client and the facts.

  • A clean handoff

The appeal moves to Theodora with its file, and you get a call after each step.

Call before the charge conference

A short call is enough to talk through an instruction or an objection. Theodora returns calls from trial lawyers the same day.

A call about a case doesn't make Theodora counsel in it until that's agreed in writing.
