Sample matters

Appeals and motions, by outcome

Each one is an invented example of the work, written to show the range: losses appealed, wins defended, sentences corrected. An owner replaces them with real matters.

  • Reversed

Contract dispute, judgment for the other side

The trial court read a notice clause against its plain terms. The appellate court read it as written and sent the case back for judgment for our client.

    2025 · Sample matter

A reversal sends a case back to the trial court; it doesn't always end the dispute.

  • Remanded for a new trial

    Burglary conviction

A juror's answers in jury selection were never followed up. The objection had been made at trial, and the court ordered a new one.

    2025 · Sample matter

A new trial is a second chance at the case, not an acquittal.

  • Affirmed for our client

Boundary judgment, appealed by a neighbor

We defended a win from a bench trial. The court affirmed without a written opinion, and the judgment stood.

    2024 · Sample matter

Affirmance keeps the result; the cost of defending an appeal is its own.

  • Sentence vacated

Post-conviction motion, plea offer never passed on

Trial counsel never told the client about a plea offer. After an evidentiary hearing, the court vacated the sentence and let the client accept the offer.

    2024 · Sample matter

Post-conviction relief depends on facts proved at a hearing.

  • Resentenced

    Drug trafficking sentence, scoring error

Points were scored twice for the same prior offense. On appeal the State agreed, and the client was resentenced under the correct score.

    2023 · Sample matter

A corrected score changes the range, not always the sentence.

  • Injunction dissolved

Early appeal of a temporary injunction, small business

The order didn't state the findings the law requires. The appellate court dissolved it, and the business reopened while the case went on.

    2023 · Sample matter

An early appeal decides the order, not the lawsuit.

Sample matters written for this template; an owner replaces them with real ones. Past results don't guarantee a similar outcome, and every appeal turns on its own record.
